BMW For Newbies

New to BMW cars? A lot of new comers find the BMW's model numbers to be very confusing. BMW tries not to use names to evocate emotions, instead they let the cars performance and handling do that.

As of right now, BMW has 4 series of cars on the road, most of the time you will hear these cars refered to as, the 1 series, 3 series, 5 series and 7 series; they also have some SUVs which are refered to as X and a sports roadster that is refered to as Z. All these letters and numbers indicate the first character in the name of the vehicle, example 330, 335 and 330xi all belong to the 3 series. As you've probably guessed already as the numbers go up so do the size and cost of the cars.

The 1 series is a relatively small car and was built to compete with Volkswagens Golf and Rabbit and other cars of similar size. These cars are rear wheel drive and make for excellent city commuters; I like to call them street legal go karts, because they are so fun to drive.

The 3 series was introduced by BMW to appeal to young proffesionals who liked BMW cars but couldn't afford one. The 3 series is the base model to BMW's luxury line of cars. You'll find that most BMWs on the roads today are 3 series.

The 5 series is parked right in the middle of BMWs luxury line of cars. Its the kind of car you'll find a junior executive driving around the city. Most BMW drivers feel a strong emotion for the 5 series because of its balance of cost for car.

The BMW 7 series is the ultimate BMW car to own; this is the series of car that BMW is most known for. Customers purchasing a 7 series could easily afford any other luxury car such as a mercedez or a jaguar; this gives you a good idea of what price and luxury you can expect to find with a 7 series car.
