Q: How much would it be to install a decent cd player in to a 2001 BMW z3?

Q: 2001 BMW Z3-2.5i OWNERS MANUAL?
Hi, Where can I find BMW-Z3 2.5i owners manual in PDF format. I brought used one, but it is missing the manual.

A: Go to BMWUSA.com and signin to the owner's circle, you should be able to download it from there.

Q: What would be a better choice a 2001-02 BMW Z3 M (M roadster) or a BMW Z4 M?
Both have the same engine S54 (315HP on the z3 and 330HP on the z4). I'm looking for a second opinion, i love the style of the z3 and its a modern classic but i like the stiffer chassis of the Z4 and the comfort level...what do you think? PS If you know nothing of what I said please don't post.

A: If you like everything about the Z3 except the chassis, have you considered buying the Z3, and buying strut or anti roll bars? I know Dinan makes very good products, and AC Schnitzer also has those products for sale. I would check with BMW forums for people who felt the same way, I'm sure there are plenty of them out there! As for comfort: Bilstien makes adjustable shocks, and you can even change the ride hieght should you want to change rims or tires. Tires also play a large role in ride comfort. I may be wrong, but I think the run flats are supposed to be some of the worst in terms of ride comfort. If you don't like the seats, the seats from a Z4 should bolt right in, or you could even buy the whole seating system from a Z4 (floor mounts included).

Q: can anyone tell me where I can buy a red side marker assembly for a 2001 bmw z3 without paying to much??
the assembly that goes on the rear bumper

A: you can try Ebay. or search for Z3 forum.

Q: Hello, I'm trying to find instructions on how to reset the Oil Change light on a 2001 BMW Z3 2.5i. Thanks?

A: Buy a reset tool on ebay. It'll cost you less than ONE reset at the dealer. AFter one reset you've done yourself you'll realize what a RIP OFF dealers are for pressing a switch or a button. I've done this 30 or 40 times in the 12 years I've owned my 325is. Now I do the same on my 2002 M3.

Q: Will BMW 2001 Z3 16" rims &wheels fit on a 1989 BMW 325i?
The car i have now is 16" wheels. Would it be fine to put a new pair of wheels and rims on it if its a newer model?

A: As jcad said, they will not fit. BMWs have very specific wheel fitment requirements and even wheels with the 4x100 bolt pattern can be a problem. The offset, and most importantly, the center-bore, are key. Since BMW wheels are hub-centric (meaning they are centered on the hub by the center-bore instead of the lugs), a too large bore could lead to vibration. Here is a great forum that will tell you way more than you probably want to know. http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54146

Q: Is a BMW Z3 a girly car???
I want to get one for college, this one to be exact: http://www.automotive.com/2001/65/bmw/z3/base/alabama/mobile/18317481/2/index.html?index=0 and I want to know if it is too girly? If so what convertible is not girly?

A: Girly car? Not if you're one of Arnold's "girly men". LOL! Seriously, cars that tend to be liked/driven by women are things like VW Beetle, Toyota Celica...etc But then again, there're women who swear by their pickup truck! I think the Z3 is a great BMW, and in my opinion, nicer looking than the Z4. I can't explain it, it's just the design. But I don't feel neither are necessarily "girly cars" just because they are small roadsters. Here's why... People who buy the Z3/Z4 are people who love to drive and feel the road; these cars give a firmer ride than other cars. The steering wheel gives excellent feedback and feels heavier than most cars. The exhaust notes are also tuned to give a throatier sound (I know at least in the Z4). Women generally (and I'm making a general statement of course) prefer a softer more comfortable riding car if they can afford it. So for the price of a Z3 3.0 back then (2001 @ $38,545 base MSRP), the car that is at the same price range that is probably more favored by the ladies (but not necessarily "girly") could be an RX300, Mercedes-Benz C class, Infinity I30, and many other choices. But there're of course exceptions... and those are the kind of women I like! If you're worried about this, dress the car up with a nice set of 18" wheels, M-kit and you should be all set.

Q: Safety of BMW Z3's?
I am considering getting a BMW Z3 Convertible year 2001. I got to thinking about rollovers etc. Am I over thinking this? How roll over resistant are they? Is there any protection if you do roll over? Does anyone have one? Would you get one again if you do?

A: those cars a fairly low to the ground...unless you are speed racer, i wouldnt worry about rolling a bmw...its a bmw, they are made to handle the road

Q: I did the DIY Air Conditioning refrigerant change and may have messed it up.?
****************************************** When my AC is on I'll hear a whining sound (i think) coming from where the compressor is located in the car. It comes on every 4 seconds and lasts briefly. When it comes on I notice a very slight decrease in engine performance and I see a very slight dimming of my headlights. If I turn the AC off during the whining sound it will immediately go away. Any ideas? FYI: 2001 BMW Z3

A: It didn't take a full charge. Unfortunately, you need to bring it to a reputable repair shop. It cycles on and off because there is just enough pressure in the system to allow it to run, but not enough to allow it to run continuously. When you initially serviced your A/C it was most likely because it in longer worked. When you have a leak severe enough to allow all of the gas to leak out, you can get air into the system. When you charge your system, this air compresses and your system can't take a full charge. An A/C mechanic will put a vacuum pump on the system to remove all of the air and moisture from the system. Before he charges the system, he will find and repair the leak. Did you know that your A/C system also requires a special lubricant to be added in the correct proportion to the coolant? Without this lubricant, you will burn up the A/C compressor. Sometimes, they just simply seize or other times they can glow a nice cherry red. Either one is expensive to repair.

Q: I am trying to part x my 3 litre BMW Z3?
it is 2001 Y Reg, 48000 miles, Electric hood , air con, leather, chrome pack, 17 inch alloys. Glass's guide says its worth £11600 in average condition which it is. (I got the valuation online taylored to my car for a fee) Why is it that dealers have offered me between 7k and 9k as a part x. are they trying to rip me off? Please only answer if you know the motor trade.

A: Checking Glass's guide trade prices then £9k is the absolute most you will get as part ex. Coming up at £8780 as trade for me. You may say but he will sell it for £11.5k but do take into account the cost to him of preparing the car, doing any mechanical work, MOT work, bodywork and valeting it will need before it goes on the forecourt. Then allow a fair amount for warranty work if anything goes wrong post sale. I'm sure if the gearbox in your new car failed within 5k miles you will be back on to the dealer getting him to foot the bill for a repair. No they aren't trying to rip you off, You may get a better deal selling yours and buying privately but you dont get all the niceties outlined above. You get what you pay for!

Q: which one is faster and better?
2001 Audi TT 1.8T Coupe Quattro or 2001 BMW Z3 2.8 Roadster

A: On dry pavement, the BMW is a little faster. On wet or icy pavement. In dirt or gravel. The Audi is faster.

Q: BMW 2000 Z3 Clutch.?
My clutch is very high in my car, would i be able to get it ajusted in sted of gettin a new clutch or would i have to get a new clutch? i dont beat on my car and it still has the original clutch. i got it in 2001. with 11,000 miles on it. it has 50,000. on it now.

A: If you do replace the clutch and it sounds like you need to, take advantage of the situation. Replace the flywheel with a light-weight flywheel. Well worth it! (about $1000 for flywheel and clutch, uninstalled)

Q: which one is better?
My brother has these 2 car , He told me that I can have one of them when he leaves the country he is going to italy for 2 year My question is which car should I choose ? 2001 BMW Z3 2.8 roadster(45000 mi.) or 2004 Dodge Neon srt-4 (60000 mil.)

A: The Dodge is faster, but the Z3 has better handling and looks like a sportscar.

Q: Am I materialistic?
Me and my friend are debating what the exact representation of materialism is. If I get an iPod Touch for Christmas, am I materialistic? If I get a 2001 Z3 Roadster (BMW) handed down to me in a year when I get my license, is that materialistic? Just some examples. I am not concerned at all with buying expensive clothes, or following the latest trends in any field.

A: If you base your image of yourself around what you own, then thats materialism. Its not about wanting nice things, everyone wants nice things. Its not about working hard to own nice things, theres nothing wrong with making sacrifices to get what you want from life. I think 'materialism' as an ugly human trait occurs when your identity is wrapped up in what you own. So by that criteria, if you were to lose your most valued possessions, (fire, theft, whatever), would you still have a rich life? If so, then you are not materialistic because your energies have been put into more important domains than your possessions. If so, then its time to take a look at yourself and whats really important.
