Q: What are the correct low pressure and high pressure readings for a 2000 BMW Z3 2.5L air conditioning system?
I am trying to use an A/C manifold gauge set to determine if my A/C system is low on freon. The current readings are 40lbs on the low side and 175lbs on the high pressure side. My shop manual does not provide any specifications on the A/C system pressures.
A: Those numbers should be within spec. I usually try to get 134a systems to 35low side and 200 high side when I don't have other vehicle specific specs

A: You are driving a bmw and are thinking about changing the oil yourself? Don't you realize that our bmw is a finely tuned automobile that has to be handeled by trained techs expecially for beemers?
Please don't even attempt it =Take it to a certified bmw mechanic and let them take care of your car for all the things you may need.

Q: where can i find the cheapest brake dust shields for my 2000 bmw z3 with 5 spoke alloy rims.?
A: you should NOT use brake dust shields on your wheels. It doesn't let the right amount of air in to cool the rotors. I hate the brake dust on my wheels too. There are ceramic pads that you can put on but is it always best to stick with what the mfr. designed & just keep cleaning the brake dust off the wheels
Q: 2000 BMW Z3 keyless entry wont work?
Wont lock or unlock the doors, chirps 3 times although all doors, hood and trunk is shut. Both remotes do the same. What is the cause? No open door lights on the dash either.
A: The 3 chirps mean that one of the alarm switches is tripped. Have you done any work on your stereo recently? If yes, then the problem will be the switch behind your radio. There is a long probe (2 inches) that attaches to the back of the stock radio that inserts into the alarm switch. Many times that probe "misses" the switch if the radio is removed and reinstalled (the alarm thinks the radio is being stolen if the probe is not inserted into the switch). Aftermarket radios do not have the probe, so the usual remedy is to unplug the wires from the switch. You will have to remove the radio and reach into the hole to unplug the switch (leave it unplugged).
The second most common failure is the hood switch. That switch is under the hood on the driver's side, in the front of the car, just above the headlight. You will see a black, pencil eraser sized plunger sticking up. You need to unplug the wires to that switch to test it. If you can unplug it and the alarm then works ok with the switch unplugged, then that is the problem.
If neither switch above is the problem, try pulling fuses 31 and 43. Wait about 30 seconds, then reinstall them. That will cycle power in your alarm module. Hopefully, that will reset the module if the problem is there.
Q: I own 2000 BMW Z3. The DSC light came on and will not go off. What's the problem?
A: The DSC light should come on when you press the DSC button (should be located on your center console, I believe). BTW, DSC stands for Dynamic Stability Control. If it is "stuck" on, there is a pretty decent chance you will have to replace the control unit. According to the following conversation, that should cost around $1,300 at the dealer (although, I'm sure you can find a trustworthy independent mechanic that will do it for less).
Good luck!
Q: can i put any tires on my 2000 bmw z3?
A: I really recommend putting tires that are meant for foreign cars ....
I've been seeing this commercial featuring BMW's & Porsche's ... I wish I knew which tire company it was .... *lol*
I use Bridgestone Turanza's ... they're excellent .... a big, beefy tire .... Here are some reviews below ...

Q: How can I get a BMW Z3-2000 Driver side door Assy. Manuals?
A: I'm a personal fan of the Chilton series. They have a wide array of books, manuals, and shop instruction for almost every vehicle. You could also try Haynes. They're just as good, but a little cheaper. Both have thorough instruction, as well as great safety tips. Worse comes to worse, just call up the dealer. They should be able to order one for you.
Q: 2000 BMW Z3 26k miles, loaded convertible?
Is $16500 too much to pay for this, NADA says between $17K and $18K is about average
A: Google "Kelly Blue Book" and double check.
Q: any one know how much maintainance on a 2000 bmw z3 would be? brakes..oil change.etc.?
A: If you get the maintenance done at a BMW dealer, it is very very expensive. Use your owners manual to determine what maintenance is due and then find a good quality shop to do the maintenance for you.

Q: Why doesn't a BMW Z3 have a dip stick for the transmission?
2000 BMW Z3 2.3, where can I look to see the tranny fluid level? Thanks Vaughn for answering my keyless entry won't work question. I'll try those idea's asap, no stereo work. The courtesy light by the rear view mirror when in the center position won't shut off. So it must be a switch like you said-Hood,door,trunk.
A: In mid 90s, BMW decided to move to new long life transmission fluid in order to maximize the first owner satisfaction. The idea is to extend the life of all the components as long as possible so that the first owner (person who actually buy and pay for the car new) don't ever have to service it. Usually that means first 100K miles of service.
Your transmission is filled with life fluid, that you should not have to change it for first 100K miles. some early version use long life fluid that has life of 70K miles. Since you never have to change it, there is no point of having a dip stick as long as it does not leak.
All that comes down to politics. Best for your car is to change transmission oil as frquently as possible. but because BMW wants to make first owners happy, they come up with this crap that is not good for the car.
If you have a leak or must check the transmission fluid level, there are two holes provided by ZF transmission. One is drain hole, and another one is fill hole. Specification says you warm up your transmission to normal operating system and open the fill hole and stick your finger in to feel the level of the fluid. The fluid level should be right below the fill hole. The fill hold should be located at right side of transmission and drain hole should be at the bottom of the transmission.
