A: I like it. I think it's a really cool idea to make an SUV (since they're popular and functional) with coupe-like curves. It looks very luxurious and I'm sure it will be quite a head-turner. Plus, the top probably weighs less than the already amazing-handling X5, therefore it has a lower center of gravity and will handle even better. Sounds like a winner to me, although I do miss BMW's old styling like my '97 740i.

Q: Why is the BMW X6 considered a coupe?
It's a 4 door car...

A: A coupe can be a 2-door coupe (which is what is most prevalent). The coupe designation usually means that there is no "B" pillar in-between the front seat and the rear seat areas. So technically, provided you have no B pillar, you can have any number of doors. See Mazda's RX8 with its additional 2 rear suicide doors. But some car manufacturers stretch the classification to fit their own purposes. So long as it has a sloping roof, they call it a coupe. Some would say that this is just the English language going through its normal dynamic changes of words, meanings and usages. Purists would call it hogwash.

Q: Is there a 5 seater bmw x6 coming out? why is there only 4 seats?


A: BMW produced the X6 as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" SAV. It is a cross between a 6 Series Coupe and an X5. It supposedly give you the perfomance of a 650i and the versatility and ruggedness of an X5 combining the best of sports and utility. We had a meeting at BMW North America in Woodcliff Lake NJ and our BMW Club was told this by their US BMW rep. It will not appeal to all, but it definitely has a niche in the market and carries with it BMW reliability with BMW performance. I just wish they had made them in white.

A: Sorry, but it's not even a five-seater. It only has four sets of seat belts! BMW is trying to answer a question nobody asked. The question was "where can I buy an expensive ($52,500 MSRP) 3-ton (6085 lbs GVW) 4-door vehicle with a sleek roofline that only holds four people and virtually no cargo, and has no rear headroom?" The X6 is the answer. For the extra $1,900 ($54,400 MSRP) You'd get an extra seat, equal winter traction, better performance, 4 mpg better highway mileage, and more than 700 lbs less weight (4145 lbs Curb Weight v. 4894) by buying the 535ix "Sportwagen."

A: The new X6 will be built in the United States in South Carolina and is scheduled for release in 2008. Sequoia will go on sale in late fall or early winter.

Q: Why is BMW building this car?

It seems to me that all BMW is doing is slapping twin-turbos on their cars (135i, 335i, 535i, X6, and the new Z10 supercar is rumored to be twin-turbo as well). So this is a 2-part question.. 1.) Why is BMW building the X6? Who would buy this car? 2.) The V8 and V10 engines in the m3, m5, and m6 are spectacular; why isnt BMW applying this engineering know-how to their other cars instead of copping out and placing twin-turbos?

A: 1. The new X6 is apart of the growing new generation of the sport utility vehicles. 2. The newer vehicles are coming with turbo engines because there is a growing demand for more powerful cars. It is a lot easier to make a turbo car faster than it is to make a non turbo car faster. And you are correct those engines a very powerful and make for fast cars but you can make a turbo car faster by upgrading the turbo or simply turning up the boost.

A: Agree: new TL and RL, HHR, R-class, Murano/FX35/FX45/FX50 (and Rogue/EX35), 1-series, X3, X6, Aveo, Sebrings, all Scions, Aztec Add: Ford Flex, Chevy SSR, Grand Caravan (and all its offshoots), PT Cruiser, all Geos, Audi Q7, Armada/QX56, new TSX, Civic coupe/TSX sedan, Honda Element, Acura MDX and RDX, new Passat, Cayenne, the new shape of Volvos (as of 2002ish). I could go on. I hate what GM has done to the new cars and most manufacturers seem to be messing with the good things. Buying used never felt like a good idea to me but it has also never looked more attractive (literally).

Q: Should I keep or sell my Volvo S60?
I have a 2004 volvo s60 2.5t with 59000 miles on it. I'm reallllly interested in the new BMW x6 but all of my friends think I should keep it since it's paid off and is my only gas efficient vehicle. What do you think? Should I keep my volvo or sell it? The X6 is unique, sporty, and would be a great car to pack up the dogs and board and head out to the oceanfront.
