Q: Has anyone had any major engine problems with 2005-2006 BMW X5 3.0i?
I have heard to stay away from the 3.0i because its not a good engine. I haven't heard any specific problems with it, just to stay away and get the 4.4i. I can tell they get about the same gas mileage but was wondering what the big deal is.

A: I've had 2 BMWs with the 3.0 engine and have never had a problem with either. I purchased an '07 X5 4.4 after driving the 3.0 and finding it underpowered. Given that the ride and power of the V8 is so much greater than the 3.0 six and given that the difference in fuel economy is essentially 1 mpg (which you will lose if you drive it aggressively), I can't see why you would consider the 3.0 anyway. But, the X5 sure does suck up the gas which is now over $4.15 per gallon for premium in California. Sure you don't want a hybrid? :-)

Q: I have a 2006 BMW X5 that doesn't like to start..?
It has now been in the shop five times over the past two weeks and is going back today. I think this even has BMW puzzled..they have tried a new battery, air flow indciator, three new engine coils and has just finished having new valves and lifters installed - yes, the motor only has 16KM on it. Starts now but runs really rough.. any suggestions other than asking for my money back?

A: tell them to replace the timming referance sensor at most it may help

Q: does anyone know where i can get a sat nav disc for a 2006 bmw x5 at a reasonable price please.?

Q: what is the retail price of a 2006 bmw x5?

A: Go to www.bmwusa.com, click on "Vehicles", and choose X5 (3.0L, 4.4L or 4.8L). From here you can "build your own" and then receive an MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) for your vehicle. From the main menu you can also click on "Shopping" and then choose any BMW to build.

Q: I am planning to buy a used BMW X5 4.8is (2004-2006) How reliable are they? Are they reliable?
How much is the average repair costs? oil changes, brake repairs, tune ups?

A: Repair costs wont be as cheap as a honda since its a BMW... BUUUTTTT last year it was ranked #1 most reliable car on the road... if that makes you feel any better... :) oil changes will be relatively the same price... brake repairs will be more expensive since the car has expensive breaks... tunes ups will me more expensive but not gonna burn a hole in your pocket compared to any other car.

Q: Do I have to update my Navigation System and at What Cost?
I just bought a 2006 BMW X5 4.4i a couple months ago and it has Navigation System on it. I was wondering if I have to have the Navigation System updated every year so that the maps are all up to date and how much does this cost? Also where could I get this done?

A: Wow...we have the same vehicle..I also have an '06 X-5 4.4i. My nav disc is good for things built up to March of '06..You can get an updated disc from the dealer. That should update it to March of 07 it should say on the disc or just ask the parts dept how far the update goes. It cost close to $220. If your current disc doesn't show some items or roads or you travel a lot I'd spring for the updated disc....It's a DVD based Nav. disc. just pop the one out in the back and insert the new one..it will load in about 15 seconds.

A: Buying a car on Ebay is normal now days if you are willing to make the commitment without test driving. Just make sure you get the VIN for the car and look it up to make sure that it is what you expect. Other than that, make sure that you are buying for a reputable source so that you dont get scammed. **Also, send the money some way so that it is insured (like paypal)

Q: BMW for first car?!?!?
So what do you think? Is a 2006-2007 BMW SUV (x5) safe and a good car? http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Vehicles/2008/X5/30si/

A: all bmw's are EXCELLENT cars (owner of 4) i have the same X5 you're talking about and i love it. lasts a long time and a great drive. as for the safety thing, all bmw's are safe, but remember SUV's are going to SUV's, if your a rough driver and dont care about your life, its a risk, obviously. Who cares if its your first car, if you can afford it go for it. i had a bmw for my first car. no need to woryr about insurance if u know how to drive. some people say not to get a beautiful car for ur first car cuz they dont know how to drive. as long as your a smart driver and im not saying u have to drive 30mph cuz we all know, when you have a bmw, theres no way your gonna be going that speed ;) good luck! i got mine in black =) oh yeah, and if you want a cheaper bmw, but still an suv, how about the x3??

Q: What car would be the best choice?
2003 Range Rover 2003 Bmw X5 2004 Bmw X3 2006 Bmw 3 Series

A: Take the 2006 BMW 3. Gas is already $4 a gallon in some parts of this country, and don't plan on getting any lower. The Range Rover uses the most gas of this group and has the worst reliability of its class according to Consumer Reports magazine. It's cool, but not practical. The X5 is fast, agile, and can hold a large group of people but is expensive to run. A good, but not the best choice. The previous X3 wasn't a good car, but more like decent. It was agile, yes, but way overpriced and a tad unreliable. It didn't have lots of features found on the competition, and was replaced recently by a much, much better X3. The 3 series of 2006 has proven to be reliable, agile and kind of fuel efficient. (At least more so than the others.) It was a good car and had a Rolex-like interior along with roomy seating areas. It is the best-looking of the group. It is classy and stylish, and comes packaged with many standard safety features like ESC and side airbags. (Essentials in this class) But here's my "lecture". If you like SUVs, then go for it- you're spending the money, and it's yours! Do you want to plot down money on a car that has all the right numbers, is sensible but you don't like it? It's all about the emotion, really; the feel, the look, the agility- it's what counts. Don't get a car because it looks good on paper, or because its reliable, or because someone told you to- do what makes you feel best. Hope that helps! -haynedoy

Q: Considering a Porsche...?
I have a 2006 BMW X5 4.4i and as much as I adore it, it's a little too big and I think I'm going to trade it in for a Cayenne S. I test drove a regular Cayenne a few months ago and it was really phenomenal and I'm told the S is even better, but I really love BMW's and the way they drive, so should I just get the newer X5 since it's slightly smaller and more aerodynamic, go for the X3 since it's way smaller or just get the Cayenne S? Here's what options I have on the X5 and am planning to get on the Cayenne S if it helps: On the X5 I have: Black metallic paint Beige leather interior Navigation and satellite radio Cold weather package Back seat entertainment system Xenons Adaptive lighting What I'm planning to get on the Cayenne S: White exterior Black Alcantara leather ($2500) Front sport seats with memory Sport design package Cold weather design package Navigation and satellite radio So what do you think? If I got the newer X5 or X3 I would get the same options as I had in the old BMW. I'm really interested to hear your opinions!

A: The BMW is an outstanding automobile. Wonderful engineering, great handling. I just happen to think the Porsche is the better of the two choices. Whichever one you choose, I hope you have a wonderful experience!

Q: 2006/2007 Honda Accord. How American/Japanese is it?
So, it's stated that my Honda Accord was built in Marysville, Ohio. How much of it was built in there? Is it 100% American? 75% 50% 25%? How of the car was imported? Just wondering. Me and my friends joke about how cars nowadays aren't specfically any one 'nationality' anymore. Kind like how the BMW X5 is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mercedes-Benz M-Class is built in Alabama.

A: It's the most 'American' car built (assembled) in North America today.

Q: Can I use biodiesel in a bluetec diesel engine? Will it harm the engine, the after-treatment, or the PM fltr?
I own a 2006 Jetta TDI and want to upgrade to a bigger passenger diesel and want the BMW X5 bluetec diesel when it comes out. I only want it if I can run biodiesel B20 or B99 in it without harming the vehicle. I'm not interested in the manufacturer's lame, conservative position and warranty statements. I want to know if it will actually cause probelms with the bluetec technology. Thank you in advance.

A: Some folks say bluetec engines will and others say they won't: It does: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/pdfs/deer_2006/plenary2/2006_deer_godwin.pdf It doesn't: http://www.biodieselnow.com/blogs/biodiesel_vehicles/archive/2007/04/05/mercedes-e320-diesel-wins-world-green-car-of-the-year.aspx Ask the dealer and see if it will affect the engine warranty. There is a difference in the characteristics of biofuels and petroleum fuels that can affect engines and the seals if they are not engineered for both fuels.

Q: is bmw as reliable as lexus?
my wife is looking to get a bmw 5 series or x5 but we have been hearing alot of bad things about bmw recently especially with reliability and electrical problems. we owned a 2006 mercedes E350 and had nothing but problems and we currently own a Lexus LS460 which has been 100% reliable but we never owned a bimmer so we're just looking for advice.

A: In short answer- no. BMW is not as reliable as Lexus. Lexus is the most reliable manufacturer on the market as all statistics and research indicate. However, the downside is Lexus is not as engaging to drive as a BMW. If you are looking for something both engaging to drive as a BMW but nearly as reliable as a Lexus, check out the newest generation of Cadillac, starting with the CTS. Cadillac has taken the number two spot right after Lexus in quality ratings whereas BMW has fallen several levels and indeed as indicated by the long term quality ratings, is near the bottom of the heap just ahead of Land Rover and Kia. In a recent first year case study for new vehicles with mileage below 15,000, BMW is infact behind Hyundai and Ford. My advice is stay away from BMW while the problems in the next generation of vehicles is worked out.
