Q: how to replace the alternator on a BMW X5?
I have a 2003 BMW X5 and the alternator seems to be the problem. I already changed the battery twice (thinking it was a battery problem), but yesterday, the battery started draining again. Others had told me that it could be the alternator. I've priced the alternators and I would rather do the work myself, but I don't know how difficult this task might be. Any thoughts?
A: why don't you take it to your bmw service center so they can hook it up to the computer and check where the problem is, and it up to you if you want them to fix the problem or take it somewhere else, atleast you will check out all options before doing anything.
Q: IS it hard to remove xenon headlights from BMW x5 and put aftermarket ones?
I have BMW x5 3.0i 2002 with xenon headlights,but i got other one with seperate ballast and new headlights. Any ideas how to install it? Please details.
A: My advice: don't.
If you already have an x5 with original factory fit Xenon headlights, that's the way to leave it. Xenon headlights are a lot more fiddly to install than the old fashioned kind. They can be dangerous to handle, and contain high voltage capacitors that could shock you.
At the end of the day, the odds of you being able to switch out the lights, and do a better job than the factory is pretty slim. Especially as you apparently don't even know where to start.
When you eventually trade your car, its value will be determined by the mileage, vehicle history, condition, and whether or not you have been messing with it. No one wants to buy a car that some enthusiastic amateur has been playing with. People are looking for a good clean vehicle in as close to original condition as possible.
Q: Can a Craftsman garage opener be compatible with a BMW X5 Universal Remote System?
I tried 2 options from the manual to get the Universal Remote System on my BMW X5 to work with my Craftsman garage opener unit but it's not working. Am I too far from the unit? What should be distance from the car to the unit?
A: BMW homelink system should work with most garage openers. If the BMW instructions don't work, bring it to the dealer.
I believe you need to hold the door opener right next to the BMW homelink unit when programming.
Q: Can I add a nav system later in a used 2003 BMW X5?
I am about to purchase a 2003 BMW X5, 3.0i Sport edition vehicle with no navigation system... Will it be possible for BMW to modify the dash board and install a nav system for me? And if so, will it cost a lot to do so?
A: I've heard that the iDrive system sucks. Better to go with a Garmin.

I have a 2001 BMW X5 and on the dashboard the ABS, Brake, and DSC lights are always on. They will not turn off. What does this mean? Is there a problem with my car? If there is a problem how can I fix it?
A: Go to the dealer and get it checked out. these lights come on when you are driving aggressively. The same thing has happened to a friend of mine Especially for the DSC ( Dynamic Stability Control ) this controls the handling of your car like a traction control.
Q: Please can any one expalin how I can locate the engine number of a BMW X5 3.0 TURBO DIESEL ENGINE?
In some countries to register a car they need the Chasiss N. (frame) , and the Engine N. I need to know where to look to find the number on the turbo diesel engine of the BMW X5 3.0?

A: The number of all engines is always located and engraved on the engine block. Either it's on the left side or the right side of the engine assuming that you are facing the fan belts.

Q: what is the best aftermarket in dash navigation for BMW x5?
I have non navigation,non DSP,non Bluetooth BMW x5 3.0i 2002. I want to get in dash navigation for it,which plays MP3 files and still supports steering wheel controls and has bluetooth connectivity and ofcourse GPS itself :-) Any suggestions? (I want it look as close as possible to stock,but have much more options,and to have touchscreen and have very bright colorful screen).
A: Ok what can I tell you. I have BMW x5 4.4 2002 so I know what I am talking about. First broblem you are going to have is doble din dash kit some person is selling it for $470 each on ebay. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can find doble dash kit cheaper I would say between $150-$250 but still it is going to look bad. I changed my speakers through out my car put couple of subwoofers and install two head rest dvds. trust me is it gooooooood. Good Luck.

A: If you open the car door, there is a label on the pillar near the lock that shows min and max pressure for your tyres, the lower the pressure, the lower the mpg but the better comfort..
Q: DSP in BMW X5 ? Any difference with out DSP premium audio?
I am planning to buy BMW x5 3.0 2002,but it doesn't have DSP in it,so just stock speakers. Is there any difference in loudness and quality of stereo with DSP and with out? Thanks for helping out.
A: Huge difference in sound. Many other sound options including reverb and sound efects, graphic equalizer, along with higher watt output. Well worth the price if you're inot music. If you're an AM talk radion kind of person you don;t need it.

A: This can be cheap if you do a lot of the work yourself i.e. sanding if need be and taping the car up yourself then its just a case of getting a pro to do it for you i would say a $400-700 depending on where you take it.

A: 104,000 miles, no major issues to speak of. I have replaced: brakes, battery, window regulators & a fuel pump.

Q: Is Craftsman garage door opener compatible with BMW X5 Remote System?
I have a Craftsman garage door opener. My BMW X5 has 3 buttons which you can program to open your garage doors, activate home alarm. I tried both options from the BMW manual to set it to open the garage doors but it doesn't work.
If I'm too far away...what should the distance be from my car to the garage opener unit when I'm trying to activate the signal?
A: If you have a garage door opener that changes the code every time it's used you may need two people to set the one in the X-5 to work for you and you need to be very close to the opener. Mine is like that and I had to be right under it and have another person work the opener while I worked the settings. The manual goes into that a little. So it depends on if you have rotating settings on the opener.
Q: BMW x5 hard suspension,feels not very comfortable on not straight town road? Is it normal?
I have BMW x5 3.0i 2002. But it feels a little bit non comfortable when you drive at slow speed and not straight road and feels bounce,like driving truck but not luxury car. PS I had Lexus RX300 2002 before,which was so comfortable that you didnt even feel inside the road driving,maybe because of more soft suspension. Please any details is fine.
A: Sounds normal to me,... if you wanted luxury and comfort you should have test driven a Lexus...SUV
You MIGHT be able to get a slightly smoother ride by replacing the shocks/struts with "comfort ones"... but most of the FIRM ride comes from the Springs... you can also try replacing the current tires with slightly bigger/softer ones... im sure the current tires are a firm sport tire...
