Q: Do they make the BMW M5 in automatic transmission?
I want to know about the models anywhere from 2000-2007? I can't drive a manual transmission auto very well. Would I have to special order an M5 if I want it in automatic? I am willing to buy it used if I can find an automatic but should I even look for one? What do you know?

A: The earlier of these dates is the E39 model. The all new E60 model became widely available in 2005.
The standard transmission from 2005 on is automatic in effect.
It has only accelerator and brake pedals - no pedal for the clutch. This transmission is called SMG.
There is a clutch but it is operated by a system controlled by the onboard computer. You select forward or reverse with a lever like auto cars have and press the accelerator, the car goes forwards or reverses, press harder it goes faster.
It is possible to take manual control and select any of the gears for yourself. However the car does not allow choices which would harm the engine or transmission. Manual gear changes can also be made from paddles next to the steering wheel.
The manual gearbox version of the current M5 is only available in the USA.

How hard would this be and would it offset the balance?
A: the engine bay is too small to fit it traditionally. If you have the time and money, you could move the dash and firewall, and mount the engine at an angle, and get a custom hood to account for the bulge. Better option: supercharge the engine, and upgrade the rear axle and diff.

the things about getting a BMW M5, is it just look like a normal 5 series unless people can Recognize those little extra like the M gill, the 4 exhaust, V10 engine. And the Porsche Cayenne only looks good with the new facelift.

Having a Porsche is more special, even if it is the slowest Porsche like the Boxster.

Car was totaled but engine is in perfect condition with 10000 miles on it. Just looking for estimates before i put it on Ebay.
A: I'd say $10-15,000 because there will always be some rich dude looking for a new project and your totaled car fits the bill.
Some customization shop may be interested as well. The above price sounds reasonable for the motor and whatever may be salvagable from the car.

A: Well, I live in Australia and the average price of a 2001 e39 is between $25 000AU to $30 000AU - anymore than 30 grand and you're being ripped off.
Does it have to be a genuine M5? You could always just buy a 530i with an M5 bodykit - the simpletons will never know the difference.
But if you did want to buy a genuine M5, you're looking at anywhere between $45 000AU to $60 000; depending on its current state.....

A: If you put the same amount of money into the mustang that they paid for the BMW, they would not have a chance. If your car is stock, you don't stand a chance. They paid the money for factory to do the homeowork and put the power into it. As it stands, he will suck the paint right off of ya.

134K. Automatic, AC works great, sunroof is ok, radio with CD changer works, leather interiors clean. window is a little cracked , electric windows and seats work, slow sometime.

They vary from location so I would input your information there as well.
It is also best to take a BMW of this class for a PrePurchaseInspection at a local reputable european/BMW repair shop for $50-100. This will help you get a fair assessment of the problems there may be now and in the near future.

A: well i know the streeing wheel is on the opposite side. and i think all bmw's shipped to the u.s by bmw have an ecu with a speed limiter. i thnk its like 110 mph or maybee 120.

A: You will want to go to a specialized BMW parts installer. But let's evaluate the situation.
If you put new "rims" (wheels) on your BMW M5 you will be voiding your BMW warranty, so you will no longer receive free service on your BMW from the dealership. The warranty goes to 50,000 miles.
I will now answer your question, now that you know the stakes. If you are looking for "bling" look elsewhere. BMWs are not supposed to be some sort of "ghetto cruiser." The reason why is because you will destroy the car's handling, i.e. What makes it a BMW. Any wheels exceeding 20" will serious limit, damage and potentially kill you and your car. I am 100% serious.
Now, seriously. To best compliment the look and performance of your M5. I would recommend a 17-20" wheel. If you would like to have a wheel designed and manufactured by BMW's Motorsport Division, I would suggest the M5 Stock wheel. This wheel is lighter that the stock M5's wheel and has the performance of a 19" wheel. It may also be more aesthetically pleasing to you. However the ultimate wheel is the M3 Competition or M3 CSL wheel, it is 19, has a neo-star design and is very, very light, strong and the performance is unparalleled. I have this wheel on my BMW 328i. I love this wheel.
If you plan to head in a different direction I would steer you towards Volk wheels, they are very nice and have great performance. They are also more cost-effective than the BMW Ms. In all cases you should expect to pay over $1500 for good wheels.
Also, Rennworx makes a carbon wheel if you are a serious racer. Because you bought a Cabriolet, I can tell that you're not. Hartge, Hamann, Alpina, Dinan, Konig, HKS, AC Schnitzer, Korman, BBS and OZ all have great designs as well. I would recommend all brands I have mentioned as many of them exist on my car. These are fantastic manufacturers/tuners and provide an excellent product for an excellent vehicle. Good Luck.

A: Well, what I like and what you like maybe 2 different things, If you are truely in the market for one of those cars, go and look at them and test drive them yourself, don't rely on otheres opinions. If you buy one based on someone elses opinion and don't like it, then its wasted time on your part, plus you have a car you don't want.

A: I bought a 2000 BMW M5 at an insurance auction down in South Carolina, ( I live in Wisconsin). So far, I have the only one I've ever seen on the road. Not to mention, I live in a town of less than 4000 people, and I'm only 19, so I really stick out!
I absolutely love this car, it's taken quite a bit of work & money (I'm still not finished with it yet), but it was well worth the financial set back! I just added two K&N filters, and am creating a ram air intake that sucks up the air from the front grill (they sell one on bavauto.com for $950), and it should be putting down somewhere between 430 Hp at the flywheel, and around 360 to the wheels!
